| Native Plants |

Native
Plants can be used to create a unique, environmentally friendly and
drought tolerant landscape. They attract all kinds of birds, butterflies
and other wildlife and can be an asset to our eco-system. |

Many
Native plants available at nurseries today are Hybrid and therefore
may have better characteristics, such as; longer bloom periods, more
adaptability to micro climates and different growth characteristics
than their parent plant. |

| Many people
think of native plants as requiring no maintenance or water. However,
this is not the case. Although drought tolerant, they do require some
care. I consider natives to be more for the garden enthusiast than for
the average homeowner that may not want to participate in his/her garden
or appreciate what natives have to offer, especially since the cost
of native plants is higher than traditional common plants.

There
can be times throughout the year where the native plants may not be
attractive so it is important to keep this in mind when choosing plants
in a “Native Landscape Design”. |

Natives
can be used in a section of your garden, throughout your garden or exclusively
in your garden. It’s all up to you. |
